I wanted to let people know about a unique tech entrepreneur conference in Denver next month. It is the 19th annual EntConnect conference and it focuses on topics of interest to technology entrepreneurs. It grew out of a magazine published in the 1990’s called Midnight Engineering. The magazine is no longer being published, but the conference still attracts dozens of devotees of the magazine’s mission, namely to connect independent tech entrepreneurs with each other so that they can share what they know and help each other. The magazine’s owner, Bill Gates, who works at Microsoft but is not the same Bill Gates who started that company, will be attending again this year.

It’s the only conference that I’ve ever attended where everyone has a chance to participate, either with a formal presentation or during one of the many round table discussions. It has a money-back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with what you learn at the conference.

The cost is $299 for 4 days of activities, although the first two days are optional and dedicated to pay-as-you-go events like a day of skiing on Thursday, as well as trap shooting and go-cart racing on Friday. There is ample time available to network with other attendees. The Saturday sessions go from early morning until very late at night, but you don’t have to participate in all the events. For example, I have a hard time staying up past midnight after a day packed with activities, but a few of the conference goers have been known to stay up well beyond that and seem no worse for the wear the next day. Sunday is a half-day session with many of us adjourning for a late lunch somewhere in the vicinity of the conference.
